When I began researching the story of my husband's 2nd great-grandfather, Thomas Rabbitt, it was a mystery. Where and how did he die? I discovered Thomas and his brothers Edward and John served in the military during the Civil War. Sadly, John served on an Ambulance Train picking up the dead, wounded, and sick. He probably had the most contact with tuberculosis, which killed 14,000 soldiers during the war. When he returned home, he was the first to die of tuberculosis. Eventually, It also took his brothers Edward and Thomas Rabbitt. Thank you I & M Canal National Heritage Area for telling my story. Sharon Page, historical researcher, genealogist, and writer
